Christine CidChristine was born at Fort Bragg, in North Carolina at the time her father, John Duron, joined by her mother, Marie (nee Chavez), was serving in the Army. She was raised in Northwest Indiana. She is married to Rene Cid and has two young adult children, Hope and Santino, and their black lab, Chico, residing in East Chicago. She is a member and lector at St. Stanislaus Church.Christine has 19 years experience in county government having worked in various county offices. And, is currently serving the 5th District constituents (East Chicago, Hessville and Woodmar in Hammond, sections of Highland and the City of Whiting) on the Lake County Council for the past years and is seeking re-election. She also serves as precinct committeeperson for the past 15 years. Under her leadership the County Council cut 15 million dollars from the budget for the first time in over 30 years. And, the workforce was reduced by 112 persons. She also placed county budgets, council agendas and meeting minutes on the county website for public transparency to their government. Her will is that of the people. Her peers have entrusted her with appointments to the Solid Waste Board, Northern Indiana Regional Planning Commission, Northwest Indiana Commuter Transportation District, finance, legislative and contract negotiation committees. Christine is an active member the Association of Indiana Counties, National Association of County Offices, Lake County Democratic Central Committee, East Chicago Democratic Precinct Organization, Hessville Democrats, Franklin D. Roosevelt Club, Lake County Democratic Women, Indiana Federation of Business Professional Women member and newsletter editor, and American Legion Post 168 Women’s Auxiliary. Christine has voted against frivolous spending, such as a $5 million dollar helicopter where no bids were sought. She favors user fees, grants instead of additional taxes. She supports a centralized purchasing system to ensure the taxpayers receive the best product for their dollars. She supports businesses that create jobs and increase the county’s assessed value that in turn reduces your tax liability.
