McDermott, Soderquist, and Uran Battle for St. Baldrick’s
HAMMOND, IND—(March 10, 2011)—This is one fight you won’t want to miss: three men all looking to raise the most money.

In the first corner, we have Hammond Mayor Thomas McDermott, Jr., who has served as a mayor of 80,830 residents for the past seven years.

Our second contender, Crown Point Mayor David Uran has been the mayor of a city of 27,317 residents for the past three years.

And last, but certainly not least, we have a new contender Lake Station Mayor Keith Soderquist who has been mayor of 12,572 residents for the past three years.

St Baldricks
On Thursday, March 17, all three mayors will battle it out at the Crown Point Fire Rescue Station at 4 p.m. during Crown Point Annual St. Patrick’s Day Night Celebration—all for the sake of raising funds and awareness for childhood cancer and childhood cancer research. McDermott and Soderquist will travel to Crown Point to have their head shaved alongside Uran, in a challenge to see who can raise the most funds for St. Baldrick’s.

“I am excited about to heading to Crown Point and challenging the mayors; well, not excited about my future looks but helping to knock out cancer!” McDermott said. “I even changed my original venue in order for this to happen. I am absolutely looking forward to sitting next to two respected mayors while we raise funds for St. Baldrick’s,” he added.

McDermott continues to encourage others to participate, adding that all help and support is appreciated, from getting your head shaved to cheering on participants. “This is a great
way to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day. And with a little support, we’ll raise a lot of money for some kids,” he said.

To join the mayors and donate to the cause, visit the St. Baldrick’s website by going to www.stbaldricks.org and type in the mayor of your choice in the search box on the right side of the page.

Donations can be made online with a credit card, by check or cash donation to the participant. There is no minimum donation fee and it is free to participate in the event.

St. Baldrick’s is a charitable organization that helps fund childhood cancer research.  The organization has been around for 11 years and since then, has raised more than $91.8 million for the cause, according to St. Baldrick’s.
McDermott’s goal is to raise $5000 for the cause.

Please note the change in venue for McDermott. He will no longer be participating in the St. Baldrick’s fundraiser at Finnegan’s Pub on Sunday, March 13.

This free event starts at 4 p.m. on Thursday, March 17 at the Crown Point Fire Rescue Station located at 126 N. East St., in Crown Point. This is a great way to spend St. Patrick’s Day with supporting an excellent cause and good-natured competition.
